Dress Code

General appearance for school should be neat, clean, and appropriate. Students who ignore the proper attention to personal cleanliness, appearance, and dress will be sent home to correct the problem. Clothing should be in good repair and worn throughout the day. Outerwear is to be stored in lockers upon arrival at school.

Students should be proud of their appearance at school and school-sponsored events. The accent at St. Elizabeth is on neatness and modesty. It is important to remember that the dress code has been established to lessen peer pressure on students to wear the “right thing” or be “in style.” We are trying to prepare students for future career opportunities, and the guidelines we use are considered acceptable appearance in an office or place of employment. The following are the minimum standards required:

Boys’ Code (from the top down)

  • Hair should be clean, well-groomed, and traditionally cut and styled. Hair may not be worn below the eyebrows nor fully covering the ears and not worn below the shirt collar. Extreme styles and colors are not permitted.
  • Hats/Caps are not to be worn in the school buildings at any time.
  • Earrings, nose rings, piercings, etc. are not permitted.
  • Faces should be clean-shaven every day. Senior boys are permitted a moustache as a privilege. Sideburns cannot be below the bottom of the ear.
  • Shirts must be business style and solid white or pastel in color. Shirts must be completely tucked inside trousers at the waist. During warmer weather (announced by the school), boys may wear the white or maroon St. E emblem golf-style shirt available through Flynn & O’Hara. In cooler weather months (announced by the school), students wear the maroon St. Elizabeth v-neck sweater. As an option, traditionally styled suit coats or sports jackets may be worn. T-shirts worn under uniform or dress shirts must be solid white in color.
  • Neckties must be neat, appropriate, and traditionally styled.
  • Trousers must be worn at the waist with a traditionally styled belt. Trousers must be the uniform khakis available through Flynn & O’Hara.
  • Shoes are required to be black Plainview Eastland dress shoes. This is the only shoe allowed and can be purchased from Flynn & O’Hara.
  • Socks must be worn at all times.
  • Tattoos of any kind – real or fake – must be covered while in school and while participating in athletic contests.

Girls’ Code (from the top down)

  • Excessive makeup is not permitted.
  • A minimum of jewelry is permitted. Earrings should be moderate in size not matter the style. Two small posts per ear may be worn. Nose-rings and other piercings are not permitted.
  • Shirts must be the white or maroon St. E banded-waist, golf-style shirt available from Flynn & O’Hara. The banded-waist shirt may be worn inside or outside the slacks. T-shirts worn under uniform shirts must be solid white in color. During cooler weather months (announced by the school), all students must wear the maroon St. Elizabeth v-neck sweater.
  • Girls must wear the khaki uniform pants available through Flynn & O’Hara.
  • Shoes are required to be black Plainview Eastland dress shoes. This is the only shoe allowed and can be purchased from Flynn & O’Hara.
  • Socks or stockings must be worn at all times.
  • Tattoos of any kind – real or fake – must be covered while in school and while participating in athletic contests.

NOTE: The boys’ and girls’ dress code is not a debatable matter. The school reserves the right to apply the code when appropriate and will interpret such things as neat, clean, modest, length, traditional, extreme, excessive, etc.
